Belgium: Fost Plus household packaging declarations
Fost Plus collects packaging declarations through the MyFost portal, using its own material categories and volume bands. Recyclability is assessed against the Fost Plus Design for Recycling criteria, which is a separate methodology from the German, French and UK assessments applied to the same component.
What you must do
- Declare through the MyFost portal, using the Fost Plus material categories rather than your internal material naming or another scheme's codes.
- Report volumes against the Fost Plus volume bands, which is a different declaration structure from the per tonne reporting used by several other schemes.
- Assess recyclability against the Fost Plus Design for Recycling (D4R) criteria where the assessment is relevant to your packaging.

Common mistakes
- Reusing the material mapping from another scheme. Fost Plus categories are its own, and a mapping carried over from Germany or France produces volumes in the wrong categories.
- Reducing composite packaging to its heaviest layer. Composite construction has to be recorded as construction, because each scheme decides for itself how to categorise it.
- Assuming a D4R result transfers. Design for Recycling is a Belgian assessment, and a component that performs well against it can still sit differently under ZSVR, COTREP or RAM.
- Maintaining the Belgian declaration in a spreadsheet parallel to the others. Every parallel copy is a place for the same component to end up recorded two different ways.
